Stewart Robertson, a student, died on 3 December 1918 of influenza, pneumonia and cardiac failure at Seatoun Temporary Hospital aged 19. He was buried the same day in Karori Cemetery. There is no headstone or death notice.
His death record said he was born in Edinburgh, his parents were Thomas Stewart Robertson, a carpenter, and Jessie Muir. He had been in New Zealand for 14 years.
At the age of one, he was listed in the 1901 census for Scotland, living at 40 Harrison Road, 3rd Floor, St George, Edinburgh with his father Thomas S Robertson, a cabinet maker aged 27, his mother Jessie aged 27 and his cousin Arthur aged 11 months.
At the age of six, Stewart Robertson and his mother Jessie, married, aged 31, left Liverpool on 9 September 1905 on the Morayshire. They were contracted to land at Port Chalmers, Dunedin. They arrived in New Zealand on 16 November 1905. There was no mention of his father.
By 1911 Stewart's parents were living at Crawford Road, Worser Bay in Wellington. Another son, Ian Muir Robertson, was born on 2 December 1912. By 1928 they had moved to Falkirk Avenue and Thomas was listed as a builder. By 1935, Thomas and Jessie were at 74 Lambton Quay.
Jessie Robertson died at the Home of Compassion in Wellington on June 15, in 1947, aged 74. Her death notice appeared in the Evening Post on 16 June, 1947. She was cremated on 18 June, 1947 and the following day her ashes were placed with her son Stewart in Karori Cemetery.
Her husband Thomas Stewart Robertson died on 28 July 1960 aged 87 years and was cremated at Karori. Their other son, Ian Muir Robertson, married Beatrice Lillian King in 1947. He died in 1983 and his ashes are in the RSA section at Akatarawa Cemetery.
Stewart Robertson is buried with his mother in Karori Cemetery in section CH ENG2, plot 166E. There is no headstone or death notice.
